Work is not a curse—it is part of God’s good design and a calling to serve Him faithfully. Dr. Michael Youssef explains how believers can approach every responsibility with integrity, generosity, perseverance, and confidence that Christ is their ultimate reward.
From the very beginning, God created humanity to work. In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds believers that work existed before the fall and was originally good, honorable, and purposeful. Though sin made work difficult, the calling to labor faithfully remains part of what it means to bear God’s image.
Paul tells Christians to work wholeheartedly, “as working for the Lord.” Whether you are raising children, leading a company, serving in ministry, working behind the scenes, or navigating retirement, your ultimate audience is God. When we remember that He sees everything, integrity and diligence become acts of worship.
Dr. Youssef also distinguishes between genuine compassion and enabling irresponsibility. Scripture calls believers to care generously for those who truly cannot provide for themselves, while also encouraging those who are able to work to take responsibility and depend on God.
In uncertain times, apathy and fear can tempt us to give up or look elsewhere for security. But Christians are called to remain faithful, keep working, and trust the Lord as Provider and Rewarder.
Whatever task God has placed before you today, do it with all your heart. Serve Christ through your work, persevere in faith, and remember that your greatest reward is not earthly—it is Jesus Himself.
