Sometimes the headlines make it seem as though evil is advancing unchecked. Wars, persecution, instability, and suffering can tempt believers to fear that darkness is winning. In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds us that Christians do not interpret history by sight alone—we see through the eyes of faith and stand on the promises of God.
Dr. Youssef shares the story of an interrupted semaphore message during the Napoleonic Wars. When fog obscured part of the transmission, London received only the words, “Wellington defeated.” Panic followed. But when the fog lifted, the full message came through: Wellington had defeated the French. What looked like disaster was actually victory.
In the same way, present circumstances can obscure the full picture of what God has already declared. Jesus Christ has conquered sin and death. Satan is a defeated enemy, and Scripture assures us that God’s final victory is certain.
So do not surrender to panic or despair. Stay vigilant. Remain faithful. Keep your eyes fixed on Christ and your heart anchored in His Word.
The Lord will return when the world least expects Him. The question is not whether Christ will win—the victory is already assured. The question is: Will you be ready when He returns?

Lord Jesus, when I am overwhelmed by the brokenness of this world, help me find peace in Your coming Kingdom and joy in Your eternal victory. Help me rejoice even when it appears that evil is winning. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
