The Father and the Younger Son

Episode Summary

The parable of the prodigal son reveals the astonishing humility, compassion, and grace of our heavenly Father. Dr. Michael Youssef shows how repentance brings the broken sinner home to a Father who runs to embrace, forgive, reconcile, and clothe us in the righteousness of Christ.

Episode Notes

In Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son, the younger son demands his inheritance and leaves home—a shocking rejection of his father.

Yet the father lets him go.

In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef explains how this story reveals the longsuffering and inexhaustible love of our heavenly Father.

After wasting everything, the son becomes broken, hungry, and desperate. He finally returns home, knowing he is unworthy. But while he is still far away, his father sees him, runs to him, embraces him, and welcomes him back.

This is the heart of the Gospel. We come to God as we are, repent, and receive what we could never earn: forgiveness, reconciliation, acceptance, and the righteousness of Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am overwhelmed with Your compassion and generosity toward me, receiving me as Your reconciled, beloved child. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him” (Luke 15:20).
