MY Devotional: Daily Biblical Encouragement & Prayer from Leading The Way

Keep Calm and Look Up

Episode Summary

When the wicked seem to prosper, it can be tempting to take matters into our own hands. Dr. Michael Youssef reflects on David sparing Saul to remind believers that God is the righteous Judge who will make everything right in the end.

Episode Notes

King Saul was hunting David, determined to kill the man God had anointed to take his place. Then, in a moment that seemed perfectly arranged for revenge, Saul entered the very cave where David and his men were hiding. David had the opportunity to end his suffering—but instead of killing Saul, he cut off a corner of Saul’s robe and spared his life.

In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef points to David’s restraint as a powerful example of faith in God’s justice. David could have justified vengeance, especially after years of running for his life while Saul remained safe in the palace. But David knew a Truth declared throughout Scripture: God is the righteous Judge.

Psalm 37 reveals David’s hard-won confidence. Though the wicked may appear successful for a season, their triumph is temporary. God sees every injustice, every plot, every cruelty, and every hidden motive—and He will make all things right in His time.

When you are mistreated, overlooked, or tempted to envy the temporary success of the wicked, don’t lose heart. Keep calm. Look up. Your heavenly Father is sovereign, and the meek will inherit His promised peace.

Prayer: Lord, may I be filled with compassion and also find comfort in the promise that evil will receive Your righteous judgment. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity” (Psalm 37:10-11).
