MY Devotional: Daily Biblical Encouragement & Prayer from Leading The Way

Dead Faith or Living Faith?

Episode Summary

Saving faith is more than agreeing with facts about Jesus—it produces a transformed life under His lordship. Dr. Michael Youssef explains James’ warning about dead faith and shows how genuine faith reveals itself through obedience, love, and daily trust in Christ.

Episode Notes

Is it enough simply to believe the right things about Jesus? In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef turns to the book of James to confront the danger of a faith that exists only in words or intellectual agreement.

James declares that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Salvation is by faith alone, but genuine saving faith does not remain alone—it bears fruit. When Christ saves us, He changes us so profoundly that Jesus describes salvation as being born again.

Dr. Youssef points to one of Scripture’s most sobering truths: even the demons believe in God and shudder. Knowing Biblical doctrine is not the same as trusting Christ as Savior and submitting to Him as Lord. Real faith goes beyond information—it changes the direction of our lives.

So what does saving faith look like? It denies self, steps out in obedience, loves others, seeks to please God, and increasingly trusts Him in everyday life. This faith is not something we manufacture; it is a gift of God’s grace that transforms those who receive it.

Whether you are questioning the genuineness of your faith or struggling to live out your faith consistently, this devotional calls you to draw near to Christ, trust Him fully, and ask Him to produce the fruit of living faith in your life.

Pray with me.

Jesus, I want You to be not only my Savior but the Lord of my life. Renew my faith where it has grown stale. Thank You for empowering me to obey You, even when it feels impossible. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
