Heaven is not a vague cloud or distant dimension—it is the real place Jesus is preparing for His people. Dr. Michael Youssef reminds believers that the hope of the new heaven and new earth comforts us in suffering, strengthens us in holiness, and lifts the burdens of this life.
In the book of Revelation, Jesus gives John a vision of heaven meant to comfort and encourage every believer burdened by suffering. In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef dispels shallow ideas about eternity and reminds us that heaven will not be boring, empty, or abstract. It will be filled with the presence of God, the joy of resurrection life, and the wonder of His eternal Kingdom.
Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” Not a cloud. Not a vague spiritual state. A place. Heaven is real, and believers will live there in glorified resurrection bodies in the new heaven and new earth—the dwelling place of God with His people.
Dr. Youssef explains that the promise of heaven is not meant to make us passive about this life. It motivates us to live with holiness, godliness, expectation, and joy. The more we focus only on this world, the more meaningless life becomes. But the more we set our hearts on the wonders of heaven, the more meaningful and beautiful this life becomes.
Whatever burden you are carrying today—guilt, suffering, pain, worry, grief, or uncertainty—a clear vision of heaven will lift your heart. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. And for those who belong to Christ, our treasure is in heaven.
Pray with me.
Precious Lord, empower me to live in light of eternity—in light of the glory that is mine through Jesus Christ—so that my joy is complete whatever my circumstances. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
